Local people will be able to buy shares in solar roofs that Community Energy Birmingham Ltd. is installing this summer. Moseley Exchange and Ackers Adventure are important centres of social action whose electricity costs will be reduced by the panels. A meeting 7.30pm on 2nd July at the Moseley Exchange will explain to those interested in investing how to do this, and use some of their savings to create these Community Power Stations, and receive a reward payment for the next 20 years. There are income tax advantages as well for investors. Details are on the website of Community Energy Birmingham

BHIOP was recently given a certificate in recognition of being a Walking Champion in Birmingham, at a ceremony on Wednesday 17th June. This was from the charity Living Streets, which we worked with to run a Community Street Audit. This identified barriers to pedestrians along the Moseley Road – we found plenty. The report of Living Streets with their recommendations was given to the City Council and some of the things in it may be implemented it seems. we shall watch for this, as pedestrians often feel like their space is being taken by everyone. BHIOP has also responded to a Council consultation about the future of advertising boards on the footway, and we asked that they do not block the way or the view to the detriment of people trying to walk in safety.

Our Tree Walk on 7th June found 21 types of tree growing in streets, parks and gardens. For a supposed inner city area, there certainly are a lot! and we learned how to recognise them and notice what they are doing. It was so good, we are doing it again, but walking in another direction to see what we can find this time. Sunday 14th June starts 2pm at Balsall Heath library, next to the swimming baths on Moseley Road. Children must be supervised by adults as there are busy roads. Only cancel if raining at the start.Trees in BH
