Big Birmingham Bikes is an initiative aiming to encourage people of all backgrounds to get cycling regularly. If what is stopping you is that you cannot afford a bike, then this could be the opportunity for you. 5,000 free-to-use bikes for the residents of Birmingham have arrived, and some will be given away to those from deprived areas including Balsall Heath. You may have noticed that the Bee Garden which was created last year by Balsall Heath Forum, using money from Friends of the Earth, has been removed. This is OK !- it is part of work being done by the Environment Agency to make the River Rea more natural and a home for wildlife, once again. They have offered to replace the garden and pay for the work, so it should be better than before, with an accompanying wildflower meadow, so it should look great by the summer.
